House Accessibility

The Center for Human Rights' Kauai Retreat Center is partially accessible as described below. The upstairs floor which includes four bedrooms is not accessible. The main floor which includes a bedroom, two bathrooms, kitchen, living room, and dining room are accessible using portable ramps that are maintained at the house. The house has a driveway that is accessible for a van. One ramp is used to drop down two steps to get from the grade (parking) level to the house's main floor level. A second indoor ramp is used to move from the dining area into the living room area. The portable ramps are sturdy and safe. The lower level, which includes one studio apartment, deck and jacuzzi, is not presently accessible, but we have plans to make this area accessible within the next few months. The doorways are wide enough for a medium-sized wheelchair, but may not accomodate a large wheelchair. Measurements and other information regarding accessibility may be obtained by contacting Peter Schey at pschey@centerforhumanrights.org.
